Dharma for Life hosted its fourth and last quarterly event of 2024. The insightful event on Jain Karma Theory and the relevance of ethics in professional success was held at the Tulip Clubhouse, Gurugram. Led by founder Dr Medhavi Jain, the sessions explored the uniqueness of karma theory in the Indian philosophy of Jainism and the impact of ethics on professional success. The program began at 1 PM with a warm welcome tea, where attendees connected before settling in for deep intellectual engagement. The event formally opened with a beautiful prayer sung by Mrs. Manju Tiwari.
In the first session, Dr Jaikumar Jain, Dean of Shraman Sanskriti Sansthan, Jaipur, delivered a lecture on “Jain Darshan Mein Karma Siddhant Ki Vishishtata” (The Uniqueness of the Theory of Karma in Jain Philosophy). In very simple words, he discussed the eight types of karma and the distinction between destructive and non-destructive karma. Using simple stories, he emphasised the three jewels of Jain philosophy – right knowledge, right vision, and right conduct, and their role in preventing karmic bondage. A lively Q&A session followed Dr Jai Kumar Ji’s lecture, sparking further curiosity among attendees. The first session, followed by a tea break, gave the attendees time to relax and process the insights through further discussions.
The day’s highlight was a dynamic panel discussion on ‘Role of ethics in Professional Success’, moderated by Dr Medhavi Jain. The panel featured three top professionals from different fields: Mr Parveen Jain (CMD, Tulip Group), Mr Vishal Jain (Managing Director, Accenture), and Dr Sachinder Jain Nawal (Founder & Chairman, Arihant Hospital). Dr Medhavi Jain asked thought-provoking questions such as the role of upbringing in shaping ethical values and the dilemmas faced in choosing ethics over profits. Each panellist shared how ethics shaped their careers and contributed to success.
Dr. Sachinder Jain Nawal discussed the ethical dilemmas in the healthcare sector. He emphasised his commitment to ethical medical practices, especially during the COVID pandemic. He stressed that patient care must always come before profit. He also addressed common misconceptions about the medical field. Mr Vishal Jain emphasised transparency and truthfulness in consulting and how ethical leadership builds trust and strengthens teams. He encouraged professionals to share ethical challenges openly to promote accountability and foster long-term client relationships.
Mr Parveen Jain shared how maintaining ethics in profit-driven industries like real estate and balancing personal and professional life leads to long-term success. He highlighted examples such as providing employee accommodation during the COVID-19 pandemic, implementing a no-non-veg policy at the Tulip clubhouse, etc. The panel discussion ended with a heartfelt poem from Dr Medhavi Jain, reflecting on the day’s themes of karma, ethics, and personal growth.
Author Mrs Kiran Yadav concluded the event. The event ended with a satvik Jain dinner, where discussions continued in a relaxed setting. The event reinforced that ethics are the foundation of professional success and happiness. Attendees learned how karma and ethics are connected to personal and professional growth. This event will be remembered for highlighting the role of ethics in shaping careers and enriching lives.
