Meeting with Dr Parasmal Agrawal in Udaipur at his residence

An efficient and senior scholar gets to know one’s intent, analyses the seriousness of the seeker in a very subtle way, and gives guidance in return in a subtle and indicative way.

I am lucky to be able to seek guidance from many eminent scholars in my academic pursuits. Dr Parasmal Agrawal is surely one of them. Very recently, I went to Udaipur and met him and his smiling wife at their residence. I am sharing a few of our past conversations in this blog.

I recently requested him to write the Foreword for my upcoming book on Soul Science, based on Samayasāra. Despite his ill health, he replied the following:

At present, I am limiting my routine to only essential tasks. Your manuscript is among them. I am slowly and carefully reading it with the intention of producing an excellent piece of work.

Dr Agrawal not only generously wrote the Foreword but also appreciated my hard work. Sharing a few of his words:

Reading the whole manuscript has been a pleasing experience for me in many ways. I admire the zeal, enthusiasm, and hard work of the author in achieving this goal. The simplicity of the language, minimisation of the use of technical words, and the selection of examples and stanzas given the requirement of our young generation in practical life is highly commendable.

A few months back, Dr Agrawal sent me one of his research articles. I read it and wrote the following:

Respected Sir

Sadar Jai Jinendra

Today, I went through your writeup ‘Renunciation: Why and How?’. As soon as I started reading, I felt a state of peace; the way you connected it with the routine lives of present-day humans is commendable. I also think and ponder the same way. However, you’ve written some unique points I never thought of, like ‘death or a disease is a renunciation forced by nature’, which I found very powerful. I also liked the term ‘Science of saturation point’; this is a thought-provoking title.

It is always a privilege to read your papers and books. Your unique perspective and deep insights make your work truly inspiring. I look forward to your future contributions.

Thank you and warmest regards

Now, I am sharing another piece of feedback, which I gave on one of the audios of his lectures.

Respected Agrawal sir

Sadar Jai Jinendra

Today, I listened to your lecture delivered at an occasion in Udaipur.

The following signs are of a good scholar:

  1. He covers ancient wisdom in comparison with the challenges of that specific place and according to the current times.
  2. He had read the present-day literature well.
  3. He analyses his words before uttering them.
  4. He gives a glimpse of his experiences during the shared wisdom.
  5. And during his talk, he provides solutions to the listeners.

Sir, you have all these traits, and I feel lucky to be in touch with you and to seek your blessings and guidance.

From the teachings of Samayasāra to Rāmacaritamānasa, to the importance of forgiveness, felt post twin tower attacks in the US, you covered everything well.

Hats off to you, sir. I am deeply grateful for your continuous sharing of wisdom with me.

Warmest regards

Finally, when I visited him at his Udaipur residence, sir and ma’am welcomed me. We had a wonderful discussion on different aspects of Jain philosophy and the deeper philosophical meanings conveyed in Tulsidas’s Ram Charit Manas. After coming back, I received this cute message.

We were both delighted by your visit. Your interest in bringing Dharma to Life would surely make a positive difference in society and our own lives. Our blessings and good wishes for your health and happiness.

What else does a seeker in me ask for?

Sending good vibes to all
