Tribute to a Life Well Lived: Vijay K Jain Sir

One lives, one dies

What is left behind is the loved ones’ cries

But the one departed

Sees a new dawn

A new sunrise

For he followed the path of inner-calling

Which was his true emprise

I express deep gratitude for the life of a remarkable man — a dedicated scholar, a devoted husband and a loving father. His journey was one marked by dedication, compassion, and an unyielding pursuit of knowledge, leaving behind a legacy that will inspire not only the present generation but the generations to come.

I remember that despite staying away from fame and public gatherings, Vijay Sir was always available for the genuine seekers. One could have gone to his home in Dehradun to seek his guidance and blessings. I did that a few years back, and I was amazed by his humbleness and wisdom. The love Vijay sir’s entire family showered on me was so pure that I felt as if I had visited my parents’ home. Afterwards, we used to chat on WhatsApp, and he used to clarify many of my queries. He used to motivate me by saying that the path of knowledge is not an easy one to walk, but with sincere dedication, one can proceed efficiently. He expressed his faith in me that I have the ability to be a good scholar.

As a scholar, his brilliance shone brightly through each of his works. He believed that knowledge was not something to be hoarded but shared, a light that must be passed from one mind to another. And with this goal in mind, he kept working on different scriptures, as many as he could in his lifetime. I am fortunate that I have almost all of his works and have also written brief reviews of some, like Kalyāṇamandira Stotra, written by Ācārya Kumudacaṁdra; Ālāpa Paddhati (The Ways of Verbal Expression) by Ācārya Devasena; Ācārya Vādirāja’s Ekībhāva Stotra; and Acārya Mānatunga’s Bhaktāmara Stotra. His commentaries on various scriptures reflected a rare combination of depth and clarity, bridging the gap between complexity and accessibility. For me, he was a fatherly figure who used to deal with my queries with patience and wisdom. As a father, he was both guide and friend. His daughters, Mallika and Sonal, admired his discipline, his rigorous standards, and his unshakable integrity.

Let us honour his memory not just in words, but by embodying the values he cherished. His light, though no longer in this world, will continue to shine through the countless lives he has touched—my humblest regards to him.
