Whey and Whey Protein

101023_0720.whey_milk

Whey protein as seen on google: Whey protein is a mixture of globular proteins isolated from whey, the liquid material created as a by-product of cheese production. Some preclinical studies in rodents have suggested that whey protein may possess anti-inflammatory or anti-cancer properties.

Few days back I made paneer at home and got a lot of leftover white substance afterwards. Earlier I used to throw it away, but that day I thought milk is a product, which can be used to its maximum and in each of its form and surprisingly in every form it is healthy. So, I googled about it and got to know that it is called whey (the watery part of milk that remains after the formation of curds) in hindi its called ‘mattha’. Then I remembered about my visits to the gym where I had seen big plastic cans, written whey protein on them. Though I never queried about them but I assumed that it must be meant for the body builders.
Really, I was surprised to see that this is whey protein. I tasted it and I have to admit it was tasty but very rich and heavy to digest. It is meant for physically weak I guess. Obviously I didn’t need that. Haha….
Then I further searched for its uses and found three mains among many others. Which I’m going to share.
– We can freeze it as ice cubes and can collect them in a container for later use in soups, vegetables and curries.
– We can give it to our pets. I bet they would love it because I gave it to the puppies in our lane and they just loved it. Of course it is healthy as well.
– If you have a nursery at home, you can dilute the whey solution and can pour it onto the plants, it is healthy for them too. But as it is concentrated it is required to dilute it. As I read it on a website.
And of course it can be given to the physically weaker kids.
The conclusion is- we love to have those things which appear foreign in their names and are expensive. But the truth is that almost everything is available in our very own kitchens. We just need to open our eyes, have to be a little more curious and have to believe in ourselves I guess.
Happy saturday friends!!!
Medhavi 🙂
